~ Leighty wins TRH seat, library levy passes by 72%~
Janelle Kracht, Josh Smouse and Roger Clayburg were winners in the Coon Rapids city election Tuesday.
The trio bested six other candidates for the three open positions on the city council vacated by Tamara Bonney, Ed Heydon and Mary Schwaller who did not seek re-election. They are four year terms.
The two other city council members--Jon Esdohr and Geri Thacker along with City Mayor Keith Dorpinghaus--were not up for re-election.
Chad Leighty won a six year term on the Thomas Rest Haven board of trustees, and the library levy measure passed in convicing fashion.
This public measure, which authorizes the city to levy 27¢ per $1,000 in assessed valuation to generate about $6,600 in additional funding for the local library, passed, 308 to 118, or 72%.
Of the 937 registered voters in the City, 437 cast ballots, or 47% voter turnout. This does not surpass the 1999 election when there was 55% voter turnout.
However, Coon Rapids’ 47% voter turnout is far superior to any other city in the county. Carroll’s turnout was a pathetic 2.9%, while Glidden generated just 3.7% and Manning, 15.9%.
Brent Beyerink, Gerald Golwitzer and Michael Peter won open seats on the Dedham council.
