Tree trimming
FEATURED STORY · May 13, 2010

Tree trimming crews from Leon have been seen in Coon Rapids several days over the past two weeks -- in between wet weather -- working to remove ‘hangers’ from the city’s right of way. The ‘hangers’ or damaged limbs resulted from January’s damaging ice storm and are potentially dangerous if they fall on city streets or sidewalks. The city is paying “Southern Iowa Debris Removal” $26.49 per tree for the work and are being reimbursed through Federal Emergency Management Agency funding. City Street Superintendent Bob Richards along with a FEMA representative are monitoring their work. So far the crew has worked approximately 8 days and still have about 3 or 4 days left, said Richards. “It depends on whether they bring another crew and the weather,” said Richards.
