Twenty eight Coon Rapids-Bayard seniors received diplomas at Commencement last Sunday. Karly Grettenberg was one of four seniors who spoke during the event and took a moment at the end of her speech to present flowers to retired faculty member Ann Johnson. Johnson has been in charge of Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises here for 55 years. Her first graduating class in 1955 included Karly’s grandmother, Nancy Grettenberg of Coon Rapids. Karly’s father, John, who also lives here, participated in ceremonies under Johnson’s supervision in 1980. Johnson said she’s hoping to continue for at least two more years, “unless they fire me,” she deadpanned.
